Gerald Collins |
Gerald is a senior majoring in Media & Communications Studies with a minor in Communication Technology. He wrote about the movies “The Beach” and “Slumdog Millionaire” in regards to how Asia is portrayed to the world in these movies. This process has taught him to not readily accept everything shown in cinema but to instead compare it to the facts regarding each country.

Chloe is a sophomore majoring in Media and Communications Studies with a minor in Visual Arts. She provided the analysis for The King and I, as well as Cloud Atlas. She also answered the question of how this project would further our understanding of Asian America. This project made her more cognizant of the role that western cinema plays in forming the image of Asian cultures and societies which can be detrimental to our understanding of different cultures.

Caleb is a junior majoring in Dance with an Education certification. He was responsible for the descriptions of Memoirs of a Geisha and The Kite Runner as well as the Background of Asian American Cinema section. This project has helped him the better critically analyze not only cinema but all art in general when it comes to how the portrayal of a topic can influence the audience.

Scott is a sophomore currently majoring in Media and Communication Studies with a minor in Theatre. He contributed the explanations for the filming locations of both Kill Bill and The Darjeeling Limited. After finishing his research he now realizes that most Hollywood films set in Asian countries are shot in historical tourist areas that aren't truly representative of the geography of that entire country.
