The karate kid
The Karate Kid was a remake of the original that came out in 2010. This movie takes place in China, both in Beijing and and the Wudang Mountains. While much of the movie takes place in the urban landscape of Beijing, it is important to notice that once Dre and Han make their way to the Wudang Mountains, the representation of China is changed into a mystical, magical area. In the Wudang Mountains, the scenery is important not just because of its beauty and mystery, but the characters placed there to enhance the feeling of mystery. A woman controlling the mind of a cobra for example. As well as people meditating on stone water falls, and men doing splits and martial arts. There is also a magical well that Dre drinks out of when he is there. This setting depicts China as entirely mystical, almost as if these characters do not only have skill but are good at what they do because they come from this ancient mystical land. Changing the scenery of this movie from the original also caused a change as Dre learned Kung Fu rather than Karate in the remake; these changes in the scenery between these two movies had a bigger impact than originally may have been seen.
